Warehouse staffing
Define the actual work before matching people to a warehouse assignment.
The assignment brief
Begin with the location, shift times, expected duration and reporting supervisor. Describe the physical tasks, equipment exposure and pace of the operation. A clear brief helps a candidate understand the assignment before accepting it.
The right preparation
Identify the experience relevant to receiving, picking, packing or shipping. Discuss the instructions a person will receive on arrival and the site-specific orientation required before work begins. Qualifications and equipment authorization need to be checked against the actual task.
After the start
Set a clear contact route for attendance, assignment questions and changes in the work. Review the first shift with the site contact and the worker. Keep changes to duties or hours visible to everyone involved.
